Re: What are your first memories of Upton Park/Boleyn Ground?
It was in 1963 and oddly my memory of it are in black and white.

My family visited friends who just happened to be neighbours of Johnny Sissions, although I never met him.

I can't remember who West Ham played.I think it was Wolves.

Stood right at the front of the Centenary Stand (not sure what the stand was called back then) or if it was called anything.

Can't believe that was 58 years ago. Ouch.

The old south bank when everyone would “let’s going fucking mental” or “let’s all make a circle”

All I remember is (especially in the Southbank) if you didn’t go with the mayhem you got hurt.

Re: What are your first memories of Upton Park/Boleyn Ground?
For all the millions of amateur videos on YouTube how good would it be to have just one which shows fans going mental at the back of the north or South bank...for that matter, any terrace at an English football ground.

Apart from TV shots there's nothing that really captures just what it was like back them.

West Ham 4 - 1 Liverpool league cup in 1988, the first season I started going regularly. Leroy Rosenior was my hero......

My first game was a draw against Manchester United playing in white, with Best,Law & Charlton .It was the opening day of the new Chicken Run and 1968 (I think)
So many things to recall in the games since. We took to standing on the North Bank behind the goal next to two blonde women who stood right at the front with their scarves over the wall...the British Legion band played every game and an old fella would come out to signal to the North bnak that the team were coming out.Hot peanuts for sale outside the church on the corner and a couple of programme sellers come to mind (not Quasi) but a very pretty brunette and a fella who looked like Grahma Garden of Goodies fame- happy days

December 1966. First Division: West Ham 4 Blackpool 0. Bobby Moore scored with a free kick. I can't remember the other goals but they have a good pedigree: Hurst, Peters and Byrne.

Wagon wheels from the little kiosk at the side of the North Bank terrace!

Relegated in my first season of going, but beat Newcastle 2-0 in my first game there and glad I got to see Devo before he retired.

Think my third game was the 4-1 against Liverpool in the cup, so a promising start to my supporting career that has gone to shit ever since 😀

Went with Dad brothers and an uncle to see a game v the yi......er.... spurs.1959ish No roof yet on the North Bank and lots of people watching from the balconies of the flats. We were in the North Bank in the corner by the West stand. Absolute crush in there, you could have lifted your feet off the floor and not gone anywhere. My old man had a leather bag with a flask in it and he lost his grip on it and he could see it move away from him in the crowd without being able to do anything about it.

I can't remember the score or anything else about the game.

Re: What are your first memories of Upton Park/Boleyn Ground?
I can remember standing on an orange box in the North Bank with my late dad and I still couldn't see much! When we scored the crowd surged forward and when the surge returned I bizarrely always found I was back on my box. Can still hear the peanut seller and the smell of hot dogs after the game and the freezing cold whilst waiting for the underground back to Victoria!

Exactly as Side of Ham describes, November 1974 vs Middlebrough 3-0.
Coming out of Upton Park station, walking down Green Street, the smell of cigarets and burgers, the sound of the crowd. I wasn't prepared for the brilliance of the floodlights and the sheer energy of the North Bank.
It felt inevitable we would win despite a Boro side captained by Souness.
I remember virtually every minute of that day and new I was hooked for life, a marriage without the prospect of divorce.

Looking out of a district line train to see all sorts of West Ham related graffiti welcoming you to East London then pulling really slowly into Upton Park station and seeing the station sign with our name on it…… it was only the journey but it already felt like you was home….

Lawrie Leslie breaking his leg in 1962 against Bolton
The smell of linament when the players came out of the tunnel
During the 6 weeks holiday before the season started looking through a hole in the sheeting at the back of the chicken run and seeing the new green plush turf knowing in a few weeks time my heroes would be out there playing.
